Building a Strong Marriage

Marriage, a cornerstone of human relationships, requires ongoing effort, understanding, and mutual respect. The principles offer a unique framework for creating and maintaining a strong, fulfilling marriage. By applying these principles, couples can improve communication, deepen their connection, and build a resilient partnership.

Understanding and Respecting the Dynamics of Relationships

Relationships are governed by a series of dynamics, or drives, that motivate human behavior. These dynamics include self-survival, creativity (including family and sex), group survival, species survival, and more. In the context of marriage, understanding these dynamics can help couples appreciate their individual and shared motivations.

Respecting each other's needs and goals within these dynamics fosters mutual understanding and support. For example, one partner might prioritize career advancement (self-survival), while the other focuses on raising children (creativity). Recognizing and valuing these different priorities helps couples support each other without feeling neglected or misunderstood.

Effective Communication Through TR Training Routines

Communication is vital in any relationship, and Scientology emphasizes the importance of clear and honest communication through Training Routines (TRs). These exercises, designed to improve communication skills, include TR 0 (Confronting), TR 1 (Acknowledgements), TR 2 (Clarifying), and others.

By practicing TRs, couples learn to communicate more effectively and empathetically. TR 0, for instance, involves sitting quietly and maintaining eye contact, which enhances one's ability to be present and attentive. TR 1 focuses on acknowledging what the other person says, reinforcing that their thoughts and feelings are heard and valued. These exercises can reduce misunderstandings and foster a deeper emotional connection.

Auditing to Resolve Past

There is a practice called auditing, which aims to help individuals address and resolve past traumas and negative experiences. In a marriage, unresolved past hurts can create emotional barriers and lead to recurring conflicts. Through auditing, individuals can confront and release these negative emotions, reducing their impact on the present relationship.

During auditing sessions, one partner might work with an auditor to recall and examine specific memories that are causing distress. By addressing these issues, the individual can achieve greater emotional clarity and stability, which in turn benefits the marriage. When both partners engage in auditing, they can work towards a healthier and more harmonious relationship.

The Role of Personal Ethics

We emphasize the importance of personal ethics and a code of ethics that encourages honesty, integrity, and accountability. In marriage, adhering to these ethical principles can strengthen trust and mutual respect.

For example, being truthful with your partner, even in difficult situations, fosters an environment of trust. Taking responsibility for one's actions and their impact on the relationship demonstrates maturity and commitment. By living ethically, partners build a foundation of trust and reliability, essential components of a strong marriage.

Creating Shared Goals and Purposes

Scientology teaches the importance of having shared goals and purposes. In marriage, having common aspirations helps partners stay aligned and motivated.
